The problem might not be PageStream. I believe I've seen this in a few
other Windows programs. For example, I have a document set up on Google
Docs & Spreadsheets (for web-based collaboration). It had a PNG in it
which happened to have transparency enabled. It looked fine until you
tried to print it or open it in certain other programs. Then the colors
would be inverted and you had the black mask where it should have been
transparent. If I remember right, Word handled it okay. I had to make a
JPEG version so people could print it locally.

Right, I suspect it has to do with using postscript. I've seen this behavior
on Windows and Linux printing from FireFox. I may try setting up a PCL
instance for my printer just to test, not sure (following the switch from
SuSE to Kubuntu I've been able to get any other computer on my network to
print and that's the focus of my attention at the moment -- everything loks
to be configured correctly but obviously something is not)
