Hello Henry,

<<snip>>
HB>> *To freeze the aspect ratio of an object Click to select the
HB>> Proportional Scale button. This option prevents you from distorting an
HB>> object's appearance by changing the aspect ratio. This is
HB>> automatically selected for imported graphics. If Proportional Scale is
HB>> selected when an object is being resized <scaling.html>, the aspect
HB>> ratio of the object will be maintained. Holding down a Shift key while
HB>> resizing an object with Proportional Scale on will allow the object's
HB>> aspect ratio to be changed.

What version of PageStream are we talking about at this point?

PageStream 3 and beyond. It's in the Release 3 manual as well as the
current Help file and the web site Help manual. As I recall, imported
graphics have the aspect ratio frozen by default, so holding down
unfreezes it. Locally created graphics are unfrozen by default.
freezes the ratio unless you set the button.
