Printing problem - page stream linux

I have a dual boot system - Amithlon & Ubuntu Linix, Edgy

I now have the latest linux pagestream and of course the Pagestream 4 on
the Amiga side (I cannot get PS5 to work on amithlon)

I have an HPLaserJet 5MP with postscript hooked up to this system

I can print from pagestream with no problems when booted form
amiga/amithlon.

When I save a file from amiga/amithlon pagestream as a pdf it will print
from the amiga side. However if I try to print the same file from the
pdf on the linux side the printer cycles by flashing to accept the
download then it does a partial paper feed and then all the trouble
buttons turn red but the printer accepting buttons stay green.

So I turn the printer off and back on and try printing a simple document
from pagestream on linux and it works. I paste a jpeg onto a page and
print it and it prints. i print a pdf from the internet and it prints.

I make a more complex pagestream document with a number of boxes with
text in it and I get the same error.

I can send a photo of the printer.

I can send screen shots of various things if needed.
I can send copies of the files that do not print.

This is pretty fristrating.

I would even consider getting a different printer but that might make it
impossible for me to print from the amiga side since printer drivers are
pretty limited in that universe right now.

I don't know Linux, so I may be of not much help.

But when I had a problem on the Amiga, using an HP6 with Postscript
module, I had trouble printing. Turns out it was all to do with the
fonts I was using, not being downloaded to the printer (I forgot to
tick that particular box in prefs).

Maybe it is the same for you?

Hi Bonnie!

PageStream, Linux, and you make for a dangerous combination I'll
_try_ and help!

PageStream Linux always prints using PostScript. It requires that you
have cups installed which includes ghostscript for turning postscript
into a raster image for non-postscript printers.

So, the first thing I would try is to install something like ghostview.
This lets you view postscript files and it also has some error checking
and will display an error message if something is wrong with the file.
Then I would go to PageStream's print setup and choose print postscript
file to disk. Then try printing your trouble file to disk. Now run that
through ghostview and see what happens. Report back to hear with what
you learn!`

There were several trouble shooting hints that really helped me.
I d have CUPS and Ghostscript already but saving to postscript format and
then looking at the results helped.

I think the problem is due to some of the fonts.

some of them have malformed letters when viewed on a pagestream page.

I got my "page that was not printing" to print when I changed its fonts to
FreeSerif Medium and URW Bookman L Light.

It printed right out of pagestream without hanging up the printer. The
pages that would not print hung the printer up both when they were being
printed from pagestream and when they were saved as postscript and then
viewed in Evince or KGhostview and printed. They would display ok but they
would hang the printer up when printing.

It was acting up when the font was aajkar medium and one of the Nimbus
fonts.

Upper case F was deformed in aakar and st set side to side without a
space between made a weird letter in the Nimbus.

Since I can easily grab screenshots in linux I will accumulate the
deforemed font examples and send them to you as attached .pngs if you
want.

Hi Bonnie,.
If you can send me a sample document that illustrates the problem, that
would probably be the best way for me to reproduce and fix the problem.
Assuming it is not a problem with the font in question?
