Deron,
Nice to see a new alpha released, just having an OSX version of Pagestream (Alpha 5.0.4.2)
that actually opens on the desktop is cause for celebration. It was courteous of you too to
notify me of the release by email.
I am sure that others in the group will agree when I say that apart from "this has been a
long time coming" - that an OSX version will do your bank account a lot of good and I will
be among those whom will help spread it's fame to the world at large.
There are functioning Pagestreams for Windows, Linux and Amiga I'm sure people won't
mind if you devote all of your time to getting Pagestream OSX past Beta at least.
On the basis of this release I can go ahead and order a Quad Core Mac Pro safe in the
knowledge that Deron is grinding away, coming to terms with Darwin in a garret in
sweltering South Dakota.
After installing this latest Alpha I was pleasantly surprised when I looked in my OS9
Pagestream folders to see thousands of saves with real Pagestream icons :-D
Keep up the good work (really means : don't even stop to eat or drink until it is finished)
Michael

I will still be releasing some bug fixes on those other platforms. As I
find bugs while working in the OSX version it is relatively simple (once
all the computers are set up) to compile, archive and upload releases.
Just an FYI so there are no hurt feelings when these updates come out!

Glad to hear! Someone reported that the dmg had to be renamed before
they could open as by default it tried to open as a document in some
other application (which I don't remember the name at the time). Some
file extension change when they downloaded?

No problem. If you will send money for a personal servant they can feed
me while I work. and buy an air conditioner Today is going to be the
hotest day of the week so we are going to go to town for the day. Gonna
leave in a few minutes before it gets too hot. I will however get some
work done at the library. They are a local wifi hotspot and have the A/C
cranked way up!

At least it is not humid here. I couldn't bear it then. Tough enough as
it is. Been drinking lots of fluids. Think cool thoughts!

Hi Deron,
as long time PGS user since 1.8something on Amiga and now registred PGS
Windows owner I'm waiting for the MacOS version to avoid using PGS
within Parallels virtualisation.
Is it hard to do the MacOS versions in a way that registered users on
other platforms can use their registration data to preview the alphas &
betas? I'd like to see PGS Mac develop...

How tight is your budget?
Can you buy Pagestream Mac at the 2nd-copy price ($50 US), show Deron that
there is that much more *real* interest in the Mac (which helps him
apportion his programming time), and get the alphas and betas that way?
I have to say that I first saw Pagestream as the 1.6 Amiga version also; my
wife also owns the Windows version but *uses* the Linux version (also
registered), and I bought the Mac version years ago and have patiently
waited.
I was quite familiar with the quality of the programming and the integrity
of the programmer, and knew I would eventually get a quality Mac version.
And as they say, "early money is like yeast" - it grows in value. So I paid
early rather than waiting until the release candidate was out there.

I doubt you are going to like my answer, Ingo. Is it hard? No, not
really at all. However, there should be some benefit to customers who
put their money where their mouth is! Once we get to a functional
version a demo will be made available. Until then, you will just have to
subscribe to the macintoshbeta list and watch the action from the
sideline. I hope you understand.

Well, I have to pay for a (soon finished) house, my wife and my soon to
be born son. I pay for software I use instead of using copies but I
can't sponsor the development of software. I use PGS only privately. My
job is web publishing not desktop publishing. The according investments
pay themselves over the years. My hobby has to compete with my family's
needs. I think it's fair for Deron to know that there are people out
there willing to pay for PGS MacOS. If it's as good as its predecessors
I'll be most happy to buy it and spread the word.
By the way I asked for being able to test the alphas & betas, not to get
PGS Mac for free...

No problem at all. The folks which spent their money quite some time ago
into a future Mac version must get their benefits. I can wait for a
working version. Nice to see you started living and have the time to
develop the Mac version anyway.

Well!
That certainly answers the question of how tight your budget is!
