Check the link to the instructions I gave in my last message
(http://pagestream.org/showdocs.php?id=831). You don't create a text
frame before typing your text. You type it someplace where there is no
text frame, then switch to the object tool. Your text is automatically
treated as an object, the "FX" button appears, and you go from there.
Converting it to a path is unnecessary, and could be your problem.
