I have downloaded the British English dictionary file as suggested
and put the files into my PageStream folder but how do I get the
spell checker to include British English in the drop down Language list?

Well that depends:

Old document: Are you working with Styles then every Style needs to be
converted.
Menu: Edit/Define/Text Styles... Click one and do an Edit...
Change Language: to whatever you want, probably select British.
And do this for every Style in your document.

If an old document doesn't has styles: Select All the text you need,
then menu Type/Language: select British.

For all your new documents: menu Styles/Preferences, tab Type and
Edit... in Attributes.
Change Language: select British. This has to be done only once (unless
you want another standard language ).

Hi Terence,
You need to copy the language related files to the correct drawer:

10.Main:PageStream4/SoftLogik/Engines> list brit#?
british.language 34024 ----rwed 07-May-07 19:58:16
British.HPatterns 72710 ----rwed 07-May-07 19:58:16
British.UserSpelling 315 ----rw-d Sunday 13:37:42
British.Hyphenation 278 ----rw-d Sunday 11:42:57
British.Spelling 1599703 ----rw-d Sunday 11:42:58

No doubt it's the same drawer for all platforms. Your absoloute path
will be different to mine, but the PageStream: assign will point you to
the correct place. Assuming you have an OS which has assigns...

I'm guessing PageStream scans the #?.language files when it starts in
order to generate the contents of the drop down language list, so you'll
have to re-run PageStream after copying in these files.

You should then edit the program prefs and set your default language from
the list. Once it's saved, it'll use that language for new documents
you create in the future. Your existing documents will probably have
the default American attribute, so you'll have to change these manually
if required and re-save the document.

Anthony.

Hello Terence,

I will assume that up to this point that you have been using the American
dictionary. So you open one of your PageStream files, say Terry.pgs, wherein
every paragraph has been styled using the American dictionary. If you go ahead
and spell check Terry.pgs
then you can only "switch" to the Brit dictionary for single words, hopefully
Brit spelled words that the American dictionary has flagged as errors.

However, if want to spell check the entirety of Terry.pgs using the Brit
dictionary, then highlight the entire document (R-Amiga+A) and then chose

Type -> Language -> British

Now the entire bloody document is styled with the British dictionary and when
you invoke "Edit -> Spelling..." the British dictionary will do the spell
checking. Do a SAVE at some point if you want the document saved with the
British language active.
