Good.

Okay, so short edge it is, but .... Still I would not check the "Landscape"
option until you know the portrait configuration does not work. You've probably
read Geoffrey Gass' note on these matters. I hope you don't have to do all that
in order to print an address on an envelope. At first, I did not catch on to
what he meant by "carrier page" but eventually it sunk in.

Depends on what you do! If when the "New Document" window is opened, and you
have made some changes to your default, then those changes will only apply to
the current session, UNLESS you click on that "Remember" button. If you click
on the "Remember" button, then your 'default master page' takes on the current
settings. However, if you are going to use the "Remember" guy, then, as advised
by Henry, you change the 'Name' field to something other than 'Untitled'.
However not sure how you recover the 'new' settings. See next paragraph for
another option.
However, if you want a very specialized "master page" then I would create a
template for that particular design. Here, when a new doc is to be created, I
open -- almost always -- the relevant template.

One envelope per MONTH!?!?!? I suspect that your fancy HP colour laser guy
should be able to handle that.

Another bulbous idea!
