Sorry. I was trying to abbreviate "6016-byte page." I was impressed by the
small file size, thinking that doing a similar thing with FinalWriter would
probably be two or three times as big.

OK, made it this far. By the way, I didn't use a text frame for the
experiment that went bad, just typing directly on the page. I wonder if
that is significant?
Now back to the PageStream screen, as I go on, step by step (and if I crash,
YAM will probably keep this record of progress):

Well, yes, quite the same results I was getting Tuesday, when I was trying
to see samples of fonts without setting up a text frame. I got as far as
Bitstream Vera Sans-Roman OK, then crashed on Bitstream Vera Sans
Mono-Bold. At this point, I cease and desist, knowing that I will just
repeat Tuesday's experience. No fun!

Slightly(?) different here:
Apps:PageStream5/Fonts/Bitstream Vera
Apps:PageStream5/Fonts/DejaVu
Apps:PageStream5/Fonts/Gentium102
Apps:PageStream5/Fonts/MgOpen
Fonts/Intellifonts

But I don't think that matters, since we get pretty much the same results.
Except I wonder if I should install OS4:Fonts, or would that just get me
more things that crash?
Probably my not having that is why I can't understand the following line:

just

But I have exactly the same as you with all of this:

Oh, well. I guess I'll try reinstalling PageStream5...

I recall that in the days when I used both Final Writer and PageStream (3.? at
that time on an A1200), I was astonished that PageStream would store
essentially the same document -- 'same' from an observer's point of view -- in
dramatically fewer bytes. So I stopped using Final Writer and began using
PageStream for even a one-page simple letter.
BM>> HOWEVER, I think I've got it! Well ..... sort of! Do:
Not really! But it is a quick way of finding out which fonts are okay and which
will cause problems.

You don't need a text frame, you can just start typing after placing the text
cursor somewhere on the page. I just robotically open a text frame!

You're jiving me again! Why would dear old Yam do that? That's a Snoopy task.

Apparently YAM cooperated!?!?!?!?

Well ..... you are way ahead of me! No Bitstream nor Nimbus nor DejaVu fonts
show up here that I can use. They show up when you are using Pagestream4??

NO FUN!

The above is the list of "Installed Font Drawers" that appears when you are
using PageStream4?
At first I could not figure out where those PageStream5 font familes, listed
above, came from, but now I see. I did download the .lha file
'PageStreamFonts.lha' and, although there is corrupt data therein, Unarc
revealed the directories you list above; i.e., the "Apps:' ones. Each file
therein ends in the suffix '.ttf' which must surely indicates 'TrueType Font'.
So you can use those guys in PageStream5 but I'm guessing that they will only
confuse PageStream4.
In my case the "Bitstream Vera" and 'DejaVu' fonts are sitting in my Sys:Fonts/
directory along with mountains of other stuff. They came with update 'Final' or
'4', I think, and for each font there are two files: a '.font' file and a
'.otag' file. For example
Sys:Fonts/Bitstream Vera Sans Bold.font
Sys:Fonts/Bitstream Vera Sans Bold.otag
Maybe 4.1.5.6 cannot use such font files! Looked in the Pagestream4 manual to
see what it says about fonts but without an index I did not find anything. So I
put those two files (immediately above) into a directory
PageStream:Fonts/Bitstream/
and then added that drawer as one of the "Installed Font Drawers" in the "Set
Font" window. Did not work! PageStream4 did NOT come up with something like
"Bitstream Vera Sans Bold" in its "Set Font" window, but those 'bad' fonts
"DejaVu Sans Condensed-t" and "DejaVu Serif Condensed-tf" still appear and I
cannot chase them away even though the font drawer that they resided in
'Sys:Fonts' has been removed from the list of "Installed Font Drawers"!?!?!?
Oh well, the fonts in
Fonts/Intellifonts
Fonts/SoftLogikFonts
Fonts/StandardFonts
Fonts/StudioFonts
constitute an adequate collection here. But in the PageStream5 Pro versions of
the future, will they be useable? Hmmmm!
BM> But I don't think that matters, since we get pretty much the same results.
BM> Except I wonder if I should install OS4:Fonts, or would that just get me

I suspect you mean 'Sys:Fonts' and if that was your intent, then I suspect it
will only add to your problems, certainly if you are thinking of using
PageStream4.

BM> Oh, well. I guess I'll try reinstalling PageStream5...
Iceberg dead ahead! Beware!!
