I've only been reading this out of interest, but I did download the
fonts and found the ttf files. On my system I had the otag files. So,
I removed them and replaced them with the ttf fonts and they work fine
with PGS 4.

Of course, you have to have the ttf.library, which can be found on
Aminet.

Hi Wurzel,

Hold it! The above tells me that you've removed from 'Fonts:' all those '.otag'
and '.font' files such as (for example)

DejaVu Sans Bold.otag
DejaVu Sans Bold.font

If so, that will screw things up here since both Yam and Aweb, and some of the
'system' stuff, use fonts from the Bitstream collection. I checked! Without
them -- the '.otag' and '.font' files -- Yam substitutes something but I much
prefer the Bitstream guys.

w>; So,
w>; I removed them and replaced them with the ttf fonts and they work fine
w> with PGS 4.

So .... to use the "DejaVu Sans Bold" example above, you removed the two files
noted above from 'Fonts:'and replaced them with (for example)

DejaVuSans-Bold.ttf

? And thereafter you had access to the font "DejaVu Sans Bold" in PageStream4?
What did you add to the list "Installed Font Drawers" in PageStream4 in order
that it could access those .ttf files in 'Fonts:' ?

w> Of course, you have to have the ttf.library, which can be found on
w> Aminet.

Of course, I did not have the 'ttf.library' but I got it from Aminet as you
suggested. Thanks for that! I have now 'ttf.library' version "0.8.5.020
(05/07/2002)" in Sys:Libs. I grabbed the 68020 cpu version as I think that is
what OS4.0 emulates. Anyway, with that installed I was able to access four
'Gentium' fonts, the ones that were in the directory 'Gentium102' I think. With
those four .ttf files in a temporary directory, I added that directory to the
list of "Installed Font Drawers" and Pagestream4 was able to access and use
them without the GR intervening. However, those four fonts have to be amongst
the world's ugliest fonts!!

I tried the same device with a family of Bitstream fonts, but they immediately
destroyed PageStream4, but that may be because of the corrupt data in the
intial download. At this moment IBrowse is attempting to download the
PagestreamFonts.lha package after another failure by Aweb. Hmmmmmm!

Hallelujah! iBrowse completely the download with NO complaints. Correct number
of bytes too!

So I did the same with the fonts in "Bitstream Vera" and 'DejaVu' and 'MyOpen'
families. The first two were okay in the sense that the various fonts appeared
in "Set Fonts"; and I could use them without an invading GR. But the first
choice in the MyOpen family caused an immediate crash! This MyOpen problem has
also been observed by Bart. In both "Bitstream Vera" and 'DejaVu' I tried at
least two fonts with success, but did not bother with the rest. However .....

Each of the Gentium, Bitstream Vera, and DejaVu fonts that I tested were ugly,
jaggedy things that looked impossibly crude in comparison with such 'regulars'
as Times-Normal or Garamond-Normal. Perhaps they were intended to be used only
with PageStream5! Perhaps I installed the wrong ttf.library! The date on the
ttf.library is 05/07/2002 which certainly predates OS4.0!

Now Wurzel, I suppose you are going to point out next that all those fonts,
which I've just panned, look beautiful on your setup, and, when printed, are
equally
elegant. I've not bothered with attempting to print them -- yet.

Cheers Don (Green Dragon)
