Preparing for POD

Hello,

I'm trying to prep one of my books for "Print On Demand" (lulu.com)

When I upload the .pdf, the site complains:

";Your document could not be created: This font is not embedded: "

...and proceeds to name a half dozen fonts.

The site says that an alternative is to upload a postscript file. 'Way
back when I was using PageStream on an Amiga, postscript output was a
breeze, but (try as I might) I just can't seem to figure out what to do
to make my Windows version of PageStream emit a postscript output file.

I'm using PageStream4.0.11.0 (Windows)

So: I need to either embed the fonts in the pdf file, or coax a
postscript file out of PageStream.

I would be most deeply thankful for any suggestions/information that
would lead me past this (somewhat frustrating) roadblock.

Yes, pdf font embedding is a limitation from PGS at the moment :(

However, to produce a Postscript file, at least in AmiPGS & IIRC,
WinPGS, you print a to file.

Instead of using your printer, you look for Postscripyt and use the
Adobe printer driver, provided by PGS, I think. If not, search for it
on the Adobe site.

That's as much as I can help as I don't use it often.

Older versions of PgS did not embed fonts in PDFs. IIRC 5.0.4.4 is the
most recent windows version and it does do so. Although depending on
your document it may not matter, Deron has recently improved font
embedding so if a new beta is uploaded you may want to try that.

I'm not good with the steps for windows, but you can do it. Searching
the archives of this list should provide detailed steps as this has
come up before. I believe you will need to download a postscript print
driver -- it doesn't matter so much which driver as all of them
produce postscript output. The niggle is I don't remember how you tell
PgS Windows to produce a file instead of sending to the printer. It
might be in the properties of the print driver.

Unless lulu.com provides a way of proofing the work I would recommend
converting the postscript output to PDF to verify that it is what you
want. There are various ways of doing so (there used to be free online
services to do it, I use ghostscript on linux).

The latest PageStream Beta 5.0.4.4 (Windows) has a PPD Adobe for version
5 (this one Adobe also offers for free at their site).
C:Program FilesPageStreamSoftLogikPrintersPPDAdobe

File/Print Setup...
Set Printer to <PostScript File>
Then:
Send to: PostScript File (instead of Printer).
Choose a PPD File, for instance: ADIST5K.PPD

See to it that the size matches your wishes and make sure that the
orientation is correct.
If wished you can also change Screen, UCR and GCR.
Font unload has something to do (delete), with if the font should be in
the document, page or not one of the fonts included (if I am wrong,
someone has to correct this).
