Greetings Bart,
Original attempt to reply to a message from you was returned to me. So I'm
trying again.

OK, now I'm with you. Is that Yam guy nice or not? In my experience,
Snoopy just creates a loooooonnnnngg list of what the OS has been doing.

I don't know of a way of getting around the "hand copying" aspect.
The more I learn about all these font families there more confused I'm becoming.
Regarding those App:PageStream5/... families: When you open the "Set Font"
window in PageStream4, do the names that appear look right; i.e., the names are
not mangled and end in someting like 't' or 'tf'?

Apparently not!

Russell Butler??? Is he Wurzel in disguise?
Yes, Michael's comments are always useful. As to 'Fonts:_TrueType' I'm almost
certain that until I included that family in the list "Installed Font Drawers"
for PageStream5 I could not type any characters. Do they look okay in
PageStream5? I do not recall them being 'ugly'.
Yes, the files in 'Fonts:_GhostScript' are .afm and .pfm
But when I included 'Fonts:_TrueType' for PageStream4 just now, then although
they showed up in "Set Font" window, as soon as I attempted to use one of the
Bitstream guys, the GR took over. Didn't even bother to test one of the DejaVu
fonts.
As I mentioned in my reply to Wurzel, I can use now the TTF font families
Gentium, BitStream Vera, and DejaVu
in PageStream4, but who would want to? They are remarkably ugly!! As to
'MyOpen', as you noted, PageStream4 immediately blanks its screen and moves to
the GR.

Yes, I noticed that AFTER you noted it! Which font family are you using in
connection with PageStream5?

I finally got rid of those 'spooky' font names by REMOVEing each of the font
families under "Installed Font Drawers" and then re-installing each family.
<<snip>>
BM> My Fonts/StudioFonts are .afm/.pfb jobbies. But apparently movistar [sic]

SIC eh? Well, if you look in the directory 'PageStream:Fonts/StudioFonts' you'll
see that 'movistar.afm' and 'movistar.pfb' are used whereas when this font is
referred to in "Set Font" then you will find 'MovieStar-Normal'.
BM>>> But I don't think that matters, since we get pretty much the same

I think Michael Merkel's reply applies here: Don't!

OK

Well, as noted elsewhere, I was able to install the Bitstream Vera, Gentium, and
DejaVu families and be able to use them without a problem, but NOT the MyOpen
family -- with respect to PageStream4. The only difference between our setups
appears to be that I use a different path to get to the Bitstream Vera, Gentium,
and DejaVu families.
Have you got some version of the 'ttf.library' file in 'Libs:'?

I get "DejaVu Serif Condensed-tf" which is one of the ones I can't use. I
thought I had something that ended in "-f" as well, but it's not there now.

That was my guess. But disguises sometimes fool me, so I could be wrong.

This will probably answer a later query as well. I haven't been able to
open PageStream5 without crashing for some time now, and I can't remember
how they might have looked before.

See above. :-( But on the grounds that DejaVu Sans Bold crashes
PageStream4 (I just tried it again, and will need to reboot before going on
with this), I'm going to try a temporary replacement of the fonts: version
with the PageStream5 version and see what happens.
Well, two interesting results! With the smaller file in fonts: (which has
to be where PageStream4 finds ttf fonts since there are none in its own
/fonts/ drawer), no crash.
They looked kind of ugly--rough edges--in the document I tried them in, both
at 12pt. and 30pt., but they printed absolutely smooth! (Not counting the
sharp sans serif corners.)

Maybe I'll try that, if'n I can figure out where to reinstall from.

To my utter amazement, no! I was sure I checked on this when the library
was mentioned earlier in the thread, but either I didn't check, or I
amnesiated what I found out.
I suppose I should get it. I wonder what it does?
