In Windows PgS I notice if I zoom the page to Actual Size the
rulers/document are about 90% of what they actually should be.
On the Amiga version it's easy the set Display X&Y DPI values but I can't
see where to do this in the Windows version. Has it moved somewhere?

Yes, in the PageStream5.ini.
SETWINDOWDEFAULTS AT 30 0 SIZE 1054 854
This is my default! You can fiddle with the SIZE. (AT is for the place
on top left where the document window is placed)
Look also at:
http://www.pagestream.org/showdocs.php?id=610
and:
http://www.pagestream.org/showdocs.php?id=611
PageStream5.ini can be found:
PGS < 5.0.4.17 in PageStream / UserPrefs folder.
PGS >= 5.0.4.17 in the prefered folder...

That is size in pixels, not the screen DPI information. On windows, linux and
OS X PageStream gets this information from the operating system. In the case
of Windows, this should be coming from the monitor itself or a monitor
definition file.
I just checked my display on windows and it is very much off: at 100% view an
8.5" window is displayed at about 10 inches. That was with 5.0.4.17 -- may be
an issue with PgS. Due to unrelated problems I can't check just now with
older versions.

Hi Steve,
I don't recall if I've added the system screen dialog to all platforms
yet, but evidently not since you are asking If you have a version
that doesn't have the File->System Prefs->Screen option enabled, then
you need to edit your pagestream5.ini file with a text editor and add
the line
SCREENDPI xdpi ydpi
where xdpi and ydpi are integers. The system provides the resolution
that it thinks is appropriate, so by choosing a different monitor in
your system screen prefs you might be able to adjust it that way as well.

Hi Theo,
That is for setting the default location of the document window, and is
not what Steve is looking for. Thanks for trying though!

Not looking hard enough :-[ .
For what it is worth: SCREENDPI 96 96
Again: on my system in PageStream5.ini.

After much research and gnashing of teeth, I have found what I believe to
be the problem.
It appears XP and Vista do set their system DPI values by reading the
monitor driver, which in turn queries the monitor (it returns screen
resolution and physical display dimensions). However, there is a lower
DPI limit imposed by Microsoft in Vista not present in XP.
Both XP and Vista allow the user to override this DPI value. In XP, this
is in the Advance section of the Monitor Properties IIRC. Things moved
around in Vista and this setting can now be found in Personalize->Adjust
font size (DPI)->Custom DPI.
The problem is, while you can freely adjust this value in XP, Vista will
NOT allow you to lower the system DPI value below 96 DPI(!). After
extensive Googling, it appears I am not the only one with this issue by
any means.
The problem I (and others) have is that my monitor is a 19" 5:4 1280x1024.
When you do the math this equates to a little over 86 DPI. I really
need to set the system DPI to 86 DPI, but unfortunately Vista will not
this. I'm sure Microsoft had a very good reason for imposing this
limitation but currently it escapes me.
I also went into the registery and changed all DPI entries I could find
from 96 to 86 to see if that would help. It didn't, and when I checked
later Vista had changed a number of those entries back to 96.
Back to PgS: when I set the zoom to Actual size, an A4 page (210mm wide)
is measuring 234mm on my monitor. If you do the math, this is exactly
the 86:96 DPI ratio.
Deron, I'll submit an Enhancement Request to Bugzilla to incorporate a
System/Custom DPI requester for people like me who were silly enough to
purchase a monitor with <96 DPI.

Damn, I accidentally submitted this as a bug instead of an enhancement
request, but the BZ interface at pagestream.org won't allow me to change
any of the parameters you can using the usual BZ interface. How can I
change bug report parameters please?
And what happened to bugzilla.pagestream.org anyway?

Are you really using Bugzilla to do this? You should be
using the "Bug
Tracking" item under Navigation on the front
page—http://pagestream
.org/showbugs.php. I've never used Bugzilla
myself, but I've heard this new PageStream.org feature,
concocted by our
fearless leader, is easier. I find it quite effective
myself. In my
limited experience, Deron usually acknowledges a bug report
shortly
after it's posted and works through them as quickly as his
priorities allow.

Whoops! Forget the previous post. I see you used the Bug Tracking and
not Bugzilla. I believe the correct response to the question is then,
"Deron moved the existing Bugzilla reports to the new system at the time
he created it."

Yes, that's what I have used. AIUI, it's just a frontend toa BZ database.
I could be wrong though.

I personally prefer the standard BZ frontend, but only because I am used
to it . The standard frontend certainly is quite confusing until you
are used to it. It would be neat if you had the option to use either
method as the standard frontend is very much more flexible that that at
pagestream.org. But I guess it does the job :^).
