While I agree with you that Docbook is a "pain"
somehow, please keep in
mind that the original intention was to be able to easily
transform
documents to other formats. Guess that's not that easy to do
with
Wiki-style (or you lack flexibility).
E.g. Typo3 uses pre-defined OpenOffice-templates and parses
HTML
(including images, tables, ... - even chapter-structure) out
of them.
But the technical details finally lead to a doc-centric
discussion which
we might want to revive on pear-doc again imho.
