| Evolution of PEAR and some OT |

|
2007-03-29 08:47:50 |
After being otherwise engaged in other activities (which I
will mention later),
I finally have some time to come back and look at all the
activity in PEAR. It
is great to see that thirgs are moving and evolving, with
new ideas and
proposals on how to run the project. This is something we
all like, I am sure.
In fact, I am happy to just being a PEAR dev, like when I
started contributing
in the early days, and leave to people with more time in
their hands to be part
of the PEAR Group, etc.
Now for something different. I came back to my home country
almost 2 years ago,
initially "just to visit some friends and do some
research" (meaning a 3 months
thing), and stayed here doing research and teaching (and
also some consulting)
for over 2 years now, because I found that much could be
done and there were
good opportunities to make a difference. That is one of the
main reasons why
you have seen almost nothing from me in all that time.
And not only I got a new job, developing Computational
Chemistry and
Bioinformatics at my alma matter in Peru, but I also found
someone to share my
life with (something some of you saw on my personal web site
in the past
months). That resulted in me being a married man now, and
happier and busier
than I've ever been before.
So, be aware that if you go "just visiting"
somewhere, if you are lucky, things
can get very interesting and you might find more than you
expected, and that is
always a good thing.
Looking forward to the elections, and hope to see more
candidates (hey, where
is Greg on those lists?) and will keep contributing as time
permits to PEAR as
always.
Cheers.

Hi Jesus,
We're all grateful for your service in the PEAR Group, glad
to see
you're checking PEAR emails again
Do you have any feedback on what you've seen? Some advice
on better
ways to solve some of these problems, etc.?

Yes, it will be a very interesting time ahead! I am still
deciding
whether I will better serve PEAR as just the lead of the
installer/website packages or if I should run for president.
It looks
like the PEAR Group is going to be well-populated, so I've
ruled out a
run for that body.
It's been a wild ride working to transform both the
"feel" of working in
PEAR and trying to build a happier development environment
for both end
users and developers. I'm most excited to see how package
collectives
will transform the way things happen in PEAR.
