Hello fellow devs and new PEAR Group,
go-pear is an important part of PEAR. It is the single most
easy way to
install PEAR and is used by _a lot_ of users. Of course, it
can contain
bugs and can benefit from new features, as every piece of
software.
Unfortunately go-pear is not listed as package on the PEAR
website, I
think this should change for following reasons:
1) There is no clear place to report bugs for it.
2) The responsability over it is not clear, who maintains
it, who can
release it ?
3) It should be possible to add feature requests, define a
roadmap and
release new versions.
4) It should have PHP-doc like any other part of PEAR.
Just like pearweb it will not really exist for package
distribution, but
for the excellent developer tools.
The reason I propose this is because I started fixing bugs
in go-pear,
and ended up improving its structure significantly, creating
a newer and
better version (see previous emails to pear-dev and
http://tias.uly
ssis.org/pear/go-pear/ and its go-pear_alpha.txt) A way
is needed to release this as an alpha version and get it
tested before
replacing the current go-pear.
I proposed this earlier to pear-dev and got following
response from Greg

pear website ?

>Short answer: yes
>Long answer: not in the immediate future, we're in
transition

I don't think any more time has to be wasted on this. Please
create
package 'go_pear' in category 'PEAR Website'.
Thanks,
Tias
