Hi,

I am lazy, so I am just dumping an IRC log here.

[06:23] <Tias_> Here's another idea for the new pear-group:
how about
creating a monthly newsletter ? new releases, accepted
pepr's,
pear-group news, review of things discussed on pear.dev,
maybe
package-of-the-month, etc ?
[06:27] <dsp_> nice idea
[06:28] <dsp_> but first of all, things from
"constituation" should be done
[06:43] <lsmith> Tias_: also pear group is not a full
time job
[06:43] <lsmith> that would be a lot of work, unless
the bulk of it
could be automated
[06:43] <lsmith> in which case you dont really need
the pear group to do
this ..
[06:44] <lsmith> pear group is really about having a
smaller group of
people with certain decision and karma rights
[06:44] <lsmith> not about them doing more work
[06:45] <lsmith> although many of the people that got
voted in, where
voted in because they are very active members of the
community
[06:45] <lsmith> but if greg commits something on the
pear installer, he
doesnt do it because he is the president of pear
[06:45] <lsmith> but because he is a developer of
pear

I think its important that we realize this distinction.
Having the PEAR
Group does not mean that we should turn to them when we need
something
done. Its just as always, do stuff yourself if you want them
done!

regards,
Lukas

Yeah I agree, we'd rather want a dedicated set of people
doing this, kinda
in the direction of www.fedoranews.org or similar
I'd probably contribute sometime but not because I'm in
pear-group, as Lukas
already stated.

Perhaps we should blow up the discussion again and see if it
leads anywhere
?
This is also a very good job for people that want to be
involved in PEAR but
can't code wise or like something new for a change.

Nahh that suggest something in the direction of a feed
planet, i.e.
planet-php

The idea would be more that it would be done by many
contributers (freely
editable ?) and perhaps have some "head" persons
to make sure the content
is okey and looks decent (f.ex. style wise) and make it
weekly, bi-weekly
or monthly, kinda even in the format like fedoranews has
(the layout is new
but it seems to work well)
