Thanks for the information Christian. I was hoping to get a
consensus on
whether the PEAR developers would be more interested in
someone taking up
the maintenance of some or all of those packages, or
building a new, wider
API for RDF.

I am just wondering, but way not restart the work left on
the package,
or do you think that is not possible? Just my thoughts.
I think in anyway, you can always submit a proposal. Not that
it
matters, but I'd be interested whatever you do.
Cheers,

I think it's possible to update these ports, but from the
limited look I've
given the current state of RAP, I think that their API has
changed
significantly since this port was made. We'd be doing quite
a bit of
rewriting, and so if we're starting from the ground up
anyway, I think we
would benefit from doing a fresh analysis of how the core
RDF API should
work in PEAR, and then begin expanding that into the many
specs that the W3C
has defined for the Semantic Web, including many of the ones
that RAP has
already done work on. Since they've published under the
LGPL, we could use
their implementation as guidance.
Also, I think there's a lot to be said for rebuilding it to
use PHP5
features, such as its DOM class.

RAP's code is not the best, right. If you want to take the
burden and write a new, clean and /thought/ one, do it. You
just really need to think about everything that shall be in
there - evolving code can be a mess -> RAP.

It is ok to start from scratch

Indeed.
