| Pentax Gallery rules |
  United States |

In running through some of the photos today (voting), I came
across
two photos that were not shot with Pentax lenses. The
person(s) who
uploaded had clearly indicated that the lens in one was a
Sigma
180/3.5 Macro and the other a Voigtlander 125/2.5.
So I looked at the rules again and they only state that it
must be
shot with a Pentax SLR - nothing about lenses. I seem to
remember in
the beginning that the lens must be Pentax. Now it seems
that you
don't have to use a Pentax lens.
That would make a big difference for me, all my shots from
the Tokina
400, all my sports shots and macro shots have been excluded
til now.

This seems bizarre since I would think that Pentax would
want to
highlight it's lenses...

I bet you have an evening's worth of work uploading photos
now
It's funny you should mention the rules there; I was looking
through
some of the photos that needed votes and noticed several
with a
watermark/company name clearly displayed on the corners. I
thought
that was also against the rules, a quick check just now
confirms it.
Will they be filtered out by the judges? They were pretty
nice
photos, and it's too bad if they get excluded.

Not necessarily - I have rarely had anyone ask me about
lenses I am
using - but very often which camera. Wouldn't it make some
sense that
someone could create a great image with a Pentax SLR and a
third party
lens? When I bought my Sigma 100-300/4 EX lens I was
looking for high
optical quality and speed in a lens of about that focal
length range.
Guess what Pentax had to offer? FA 80-320/4.5-5.6 - not
even in the
same league (I had one at one point in time). So I have
shots that
would show the bodie is capable of good work, why not show
it as well?
So someone looking in the gallery might be thinking about
buying a
Pentax - so all images shown would give some indication of
what they
might expect (or could do).
I went ahead and submitted a couple from different lenses -
and marked
them accordingly in the comments - we'll see if they throw
them all
out or not.

You don't use exclusively Pentax lenses?

Whenever I use a Pentax lens, I exclusively use it until I
change to a
different lens <grin>.

I just checked - when you press the 'Upload" button,
the page where you select the images for uploading still
clearly states "...must be taken by a PENTAX SLR with a
PENTAX lens"
It will be interesting to see if Bruce's non-Pentax lens
images are accepted. I've got a few in that category I'd
like to submit.

My invite to submit images to the gallery back in January,
specifically
stated Pentax camera bodies & Pentax lenses.
The pulldown menu for lenses originally only listed Pentax
lenses. I haven't
noted if that has changed.

Okay, while we're at this, I wonder what reaction *I* would
get.
