Agreed. I doubt that few would come out in favor of herding
cattle down bond streets. But not many would many object to
tropical fish store clerks going topless in Liverpool. Good
photo op. And I'm not suprised to hear that the Queen's tail
is the proplerty of the king .

I rather like the idea of being able to murder Scotsmen in
York. I may
try it somebody.

And I'm absolutely in favour of herding cattle through
bond's
streets. The more the merrier. It used to be quite common,
bringing
them to Smithfield along the drovers' roads.

Shakespeare used to live on Silver Street in bond, which
had
previously been part of a road leading from near Cripplegate
to
Smithfield and was then called Addle Street, a name derived
from
Anglo-Saxon adel, meaning cow dung. This probably explains
in part why
it is against the law to herd them through bond.

Don McCullin took a wonderful picture in the 1960s of
someone driving
sheep through bond to the market in the early dawn light.
Unfortunately I can't find it on the net to show.

Oddly enough, now that I think about it, a couple of years
ago I was
looking up some Victorian court records for some reason and
found that
someone with my surname had been executed for selling a cow
he didn't
own from Smithfield, so perhaps it's not a good idea after
all.
