Ah, yes, I must get round to starting to move stuff from my
flat to the bins
out back. The dumb terminals first, I think.

I've got a fairly pristine Ultra 30 knocking about doing
nothing...

Perfection is achieved when there is nothing left to take
away. I'm
on the right way; I don't actually own any computing device
more
powerful than a TI-89 calculator...

If you have any sort of consumer electronics produced in the
last five or so
years, it will have a CPU in it more powerful than that old
thing.

This includes stuff like radios and telephones.

That could still mean you have a basement heaving with PDPs,
or shelves
full of vintage micros.

the hatter (who owns several computers less powerful than a
TI-89)

I'd not be surprised if my bloody *fridge* did.

When it broke shortly after I bought it, the technician who
came to fix
it just did a firmware upgrade.

Computer Science is about lofty design goals and careful
algorithmic
optimisation. Sysadminning is about cleaning up the
resulting mess.

Wotchoo got? I broke one of the connectors on my VT320 and
would quite
like another one.

You want my landlord. The only microcontroller I found in
what is laughingly
called a furnished flat was in the electricity meter. All
the stuff came
pre-broke, and he's not seen fit to repair or replace any of
it.

The level of technology was dragged forwards about four
decades when I moved
in.

Two VT520s and a Wyse 50.
