I thought some people might be interested in some ancient
history. I
planned to send this on the tenth anniversary - but I was
crap and
missed it.

Anyway, some blasts from the past courtesy of Google
Groups.

First posting suggesting the idea of bond.pm - 28 Mar 1998

   http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.l
ang.perl.misc/msg/dedbe25e7728bc52

Two days later, the group is launched - 30 Mar 1998

ang.perl.misc/msg/aa968ed61ee166fd

Of course, it took us until August to get organised enough
to have our
first meeting.

I'd forgotten about findmail.com - which is where we first
hosted the
mailing list. Of course that's long gone.

The first copy of the web site that the Wayback Machine has
is from
the end of 1998.

I'm still quite fond of that design

Ah... nostalgia.

Cheers,

Dave...

The Am-Am mini-golf competition in Hastings never did
happen. :-(

Maybe we should find someone familiar with Hastings to
organise that
for an anniversary celebration

I don't think you can assume that from the photos, as I
don't think
everyone who was there is in one of the photos. I'm pretty
sure there
were twelve of us and there are only nine in the photos.

Of course, I'm pretty sure that your assertion is true. I
just don't
think the photos prove it.

Can anyone remember who the missing three people are? Was
Leo at that
meeting? Or Jim Gillespie?

That's common for most meetings - few photos show the full
ensemble

Meh. I didn't manage to make it until the move to penderals
oak.

I remember coming when it was still in that venue, but for
the life of
me I can't remember if I made it to the first meeting.
