Tishina, Joe And EVERYBODY,
As Tishina has stated due to the Health Insurance Privacy and
Portability Act of 2004, I can not discuss what I 'fill' especially
for HIV + patients.
Let's just say that my Phamrmacy delivers antivirals and maintance
meds. up to 100 miles from our physical address in Corpus Christi,
Texas so that the small town Phamracies don't have to special order
RetroVir (among others) and the HIV + patients will remain anonymous
in their small south Texas towns.
As far as Plan B goes, for all you people who think that I am some
kind of 'weird-o' on that 'issue', I have a story to tell you:
Last Sunday night, I got an ER discharge script for Plan B given to
me by a young lady (MAYBE 18?) who was with her boyfriend!
He was holding her hand, putting his arm around her. It was not
a 'control' issue with the young man. It was REALLY obvious that the
young man and the young woman were (ARE) in love.
She is a Medicade patient. She has no private insurance...
Which really doesn't matter because as far as I know, no private
insurance will pay for Plan B anyway.
THEY (AND I WILL REINFORCE THE FACT THAT THE BOY OR YOUNG MAN WAS
INVOLVED IN THIS DECISION) asked me how the Plan B works and how much
it will cost.
This young lady was not a rape or incest victom as she had been to
the hospital, and if this had been the case, she would have received
the emergency contraception at no cost, and she would not have ended
up at my Pharmacy at 10:00 at night.
She thought that it would be free.
I told her that it would cost about $50.00.
THEY told me to fill the script.
I DID IT.
I FILLED IT AS A 'WAITER' and they came back about 20 minutes later
and the man (BOY) gave me 3 $20.00's.
This is the one and ONLY time I have either filled or 'sold' Plan B.
I'm sorry if some people take offense if have to 'rationalize' the
sale of this particular medication on a case-by-case-basis.
I'll follow my conscience....
Even if the Texas Supreme Court 'tells me' that I have to 'sell'
or 'process' this particualr med...
If I don't feel right about distributing it...
I WON'T DO IT!
Hey, at least I am honest about this subject.
I hope that by now the members of this Group have developed enough
respect for my viewpoints not to (once again) send me private E-Mails
that include such things that in my afterlife I will be having a
boliling beer with Satan!
