I am wondering, what does one who passes the other exam get.
I can't see them being able to use the CPhT designation
because doesn't PTCB have it copywrited? I saw they get a
certificate, but what designation can they even get?
I can't believe that, one can register and then within 2
days write the exam. Also, the cost is less. It makes me
think the exam isn't as hard as the PTCB exam I did.
I see many people saying that the PTCB exam they did was
easy. When I was there, I did well, but the man beside me
was on his 4th try. A couple of women came out and spoke to
my Mom and husband and said they had been working in
Pharmacy for 10 years and couldn't answer half the
questions. I did well, but others are having a hard time.

Hi Annette,
I agree with you one-hundred percent. I do not think we
should have
multiple National Certification Exams because then we lose
the
standardization of one valid exam that will be recognized in
all the
states. As much as I would like to see changes in the PTCB
exam
offered, I also feel that the offering of other similar
exams defeats
the purpose of a national exam especially if we find one
being
accepted in some states but not in other states.
As for difficulty level of the PTCB exam, I find it is
general, but
not necessarily easy. It would be nice to see more
demanding
specialty exams, such as retail vs hospital, etc. But that
is a
different posting.
In conclusion, if we begin having multiple offerings of the
national
exam, we are again doing more harm for our vocation than
good. I do
not see multiple Pharmacist National exams because
standardization is
the protocol. The only reason we are beginning to see
multiple
Pharmacy Technician exams is simply because money can be
made.

That is exactly why we should volunteer with PTCB! I became
an item
writer with PTCB for the same reason. When I took the exam
(many
moons ago) I felt it was a "no brainer." Every
fall, PTCB accepts
applications for the item writing committee. Everyone on
the
committee writes and submits test questions then, in the
spring, a
group of people are chosen to actually go to Washington,
D.C. to
review the new as well as the old questions. It may not
sound like
fun to some people but I enjoy meeting people from all over
the
country and I am especially proud to make a difference on a
national
level.

If you ask me, the board exam is too easy. I work in a
hospital.
It makes me wonder what version of the test someone got when
they
cant tell me how many milligrams are in one-half gram.
