| Unusually High Number of Hits |
  United States |

In the last few weeks I've noticed an unusually high number of hits
from a variety of countries to a particular page on my blog. (I
typically use Sitemeter to view visits, and only occasionally read my
hosting company's stat report.) Sitemeter offers a "Referring URL" but
in all of these cases going to that particular page on my blog, the
"Referring URL" has no data. I'm curious to know if anyone can offer
some insight as to why this is happening.
Cheers.
George

stumbleupon will do that. if someone recommends a page in
the
stumbleupon network, you could get several thousand unique
views to
that page in one day. out of curiosity - which photo?

Well, it ain't stumbleupon traffic because I just gave it
the first
thumbs up. Along similar lines, sometimes pixelpost marks
referrers as
http://xxxxxx.xxx. I never
worked that out either.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up on that Jamie. That page is still
getting hits. Would be interesting to know why!

Okay, so now I *have* started getting hits from Stumbleupon. I've gone
to the Stumbleupon site to see who marked my site, but I have to say
Stumbleupon is lousy for first time users. I'm no internet novice, but
I've totally lost patience trying to figure out how to efficiently use
that site. Can anyone enlighten me how to find who posted my site?
Thanks.

Erm.. I think that would be me. When I clicked 'thumbs up'
it said that
I was the first to submit. I find that stumbleupon drives a
lot of
traffic to my own site.

Well thanks for the "thumbs up" Jamie After I read your message it
then occurred to me that a week or two ago you had mentioned doing just
that. So now I know how it got there. Could you educate me a bit about
stumbleupon? It looks like you have to sign up/register, and then it
loads a toolbar in your browser? Is that the case? And then what??? Any
feedback is much appreciated!
