Hey All,

Quick question - and will probably have some more on the way
too!

Have been approached recently by a company requesting use of
some of
my photos. All well & good except they're wanting to
print the images
onto canvas at approx 1.5m wide. I'm not 100% sure if the
res of my
images is ok for this type of printing, so I asked the
question.. They
advised 3000 x 2000 would be ok as long as it's 72dpi, where
as mine
are 300.

Am a novice in the area of printing and looking for any type
of advice, etc..

Once this is sorted, I'll be back to ask for info regarding
rights & pricing ;)

Cheers,
Ian

Short answer: dpi means nothing in this scenario. The actual
pixel
dimensions are all that count. Provide the file size that
comes out of your
camera (in 16-bit if you shot raw) and that's "as good
as it gets".

Hope this helps.

Great, thanks for that.

The highest res of my d70 I believe is 3000 x 2000.. If I
edit the RAW
image and then save the file as JPEG would that still be the
best
available? Or is it preferrably to provide the company with
TIFF
images? (not very experienced with TIFF images at all).

Cheers,
Ian

Ian,

JPG is 8-bit. No worries in most cases, but, for example, if
it's very
noisy, 16-bit will be better to denoise. The TIFF offers a
16-bit version --
giving more processing latitude. I would recommend you ask
to talk with
their techie as they may want the file in CMYK format. If
they want RGB
format, make sure to ask the color space they wish to have.
