portal_url is a tool in your plone site.  if you call it it
gives you the
host url.  you control your hos headers by a proxy being in
front of your
plone.  use apache or iis.  there is a way to do it with
VirtualHostMonster but its a tad more complex.

always use a proxy server such as apache or m$ iis.
