Thanks a lot Bastien.

Anybody got any further detail on how to serve it though?

* The guide indicates that perhaps Apache is the way to go (as a proxy). I'm probably only going to serve the pages to around forty people to begin with... is Apache necessary?

* I haven't found any documentation on how to configure Apache for these kinds of addresses either... I'm a bit lost there.

* We should be able to make the address a little sexier than http://ip_of_your_server:zope_port/plone_instance too, right? Is the monster the way to go for that?

If I've missed someplace that documents this back-end server setup please point me there so I can minimize the stupid questions factor.

P.

Hummm... if you HP Server is on your network, just call http://ip_of_your_server:zope_port/plone_instance and it should be available to all users...

Subject: Intranet server setup howto - Serve pages internally from Linux to MS netowork

Hi there,

I'm trying to build a Plone intranet to handle news and research inside a corporate network, but SEPARATE from our official domain for which we already have a (fairly poor) intranet.

I have a shiny new HP server with Linux installed. I want to know what's required to serve pages from this server to our internal network.  I've read the Definitive Guide to Plone and related documentation. I'm fairly comfortable with the site itself, but how to publish it to users is my problem.

Any ideas/advice?

Much appreciated,

P.

Patrick,

Look at zope.org for most of these things. The example
Apache configs
are there, with information about how to use the Virtual
Host Monster.

You _do_ want to use Apache for its caching and rewriting,
etc.

Using different domain names is something that needs to be
coordinated
with your DNS administrator. You can do all kinds of tricks
with that
one
