Hi,
Sorry if this has already been discussed; I just joined the list...
I've been trying to get Plone 3 installed on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn using the Unified Installer. This would be parallel to a Plone
2.5 install. However, it keeps hanging at the python 2.4.4. install. I have build-essential installed, and I've double checked to make sure that gcc, g++, gnu make, and gnu tar are all present. I've heard that if Python
2.5 is present, this can break the Plone 3 install - and indeed it was present on the machine, so I removed it - however this made no difference. At that point, I also removed my previous install of Python 2.4.4 (Plone 2.5
was using it), and for good measure removed Plone 2.5 and Zope2.9. This didn't make a difference either; the Plone 3 install continues to hang at the same point every time:
"Install of Python 2.4.4 has failed" (see the bottom of this post for a snippet of the error messages). Currently I am working on installing Zope2.10.4 and Plone 3 manually from source, but it sure would be nice to solve the riddle of why the Unified Installer isn't working. Anybody else run across this on Ubuntu or Debian? Any advice?

Well now heck! I just successfully installed Plone 3.0 using
the UI on two
other Ubuntu Fawn machines. I had *no problems* with the
install. I'd say
it's a pretty good guess that the machine in question is
effed up in some
way. Thanks everyone; if I ever learn what caused the
install hang, I'll
post it as a caveat to others.
