Thread: ZEO Unable to Start

I've got Plone-3.0.2 installed using the Unified Installer
on Ubuntu Fawn,
the root install/zeocluster option. The installer works
great (*thank you,*
Kamal Gill and Steve McMahon). The problem is that the
zeocluster will not
start, and the event logs show the following errors:

------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
2007-10-22T10:22:02 INFO root spawned process pid=695
------
2007-10-22T10:22:03 INFO root sleep 1 to avoid rapid
restarts
------
2007-10-22T10:22:03 INFO root pid 695: exit status 2;
exiting now
------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------

I am following the directions in adminPassword.txt and am
using sudo in the
command line to start the zeocluster. I've seen these
event-log errors
previously in association with directory/file permissions.
Is that what's
going on? Recommendations, anyone?

As a followup, I finally got zeo to start for the first time
after about six
attempts. After which, I moved a product into
/opt/Plone-3.0.2/zeocluster/Products and attempted to
restart. It hung once
again but eventually restarted after about 8 attempts. I'm
glad to see that
the zeocluster starts eventually, but anybody got an idea
why it's hanging
like this?

By my experience, if there are no errors in any of the
event.log files,
the most common problem is that something is already
occupying the ZEO
port (8100, unless you change it).

Usually, that something is a prior running of ZEO itself.
It's very easy
to do that, and if you've reinstalled the ZEO instance may
even
effectively be a Zombie, divorced from any controlling
program.

Steve, this makes perfect sense - I did do a couple of
reinstalls prior to
this. A system reboot got rid of the stray child processes.
ZEO starts right
off the bat now.

IncrementalSearch2 in Plone?
user name

Hi all,

We're running Plone 2.5.3 on Zope 2.9.7 (on OpenBSD 4.1),
and I'm
wondering if Plone starts off with IncrementalSearch2
enabled, or if
that's a separate product (which we haven't installed).

I'm tracking down a memory leak, and found notes [1] and
Dieter's patch
[2], and it seems to have some relevance to our case (mem
leak, bug for
64-bit), if our Plone actually uses it.
