hi,
I don't have any experience in what happens if a user
chooses a language in
his preference-setup,
so I can only tell you what steps are necessary to setup a
multilingual-site
in general:
you need to configure the available languages, the use of
flags for language
selection and translations and other options which control
the
language-selection in your Plone site with the
PloneLanguageTool at:
YOUR_PORTAL_URL/portal_languages/prefs_languages
with those settings you are able to control which language
is the default
and how
other languages can/will be selected depending on the
language-settings of a
users webbrowser,
a language choosen by a user, the content-language of a
document...
