overwriting translations using an egg

Hi,
is there a possibility of overwriting an i18n translation
located in a 
i18n folder,
inside an egg using the locales/... and
i18n:registerTranslations procedure?

I wanted to add a custom translation for kupu inside a
policy egg, 
containing other
kupu customizations as well.

Short answer: No.

If you want to add messages to an already defined domain,
you can only 
do that in i18n folders. That's the reason all the domains
used by Plone 
itself are still in i18n folders.

If you want to overwrite translations the only bullet-proof
way is to 
put them inside an i18n folder directly inside your
$INSTANCE_HOME, 
right next to bin, products, Extensions, ...

Overwriting messages inside a domain specified in a locales
folder is 
currently not possible. If you really need it, you could
look into the 
CustomizableTranslations product in the collective, whose
functionality 
is going to be added to Plone at some point.

Longer answer: Yes, but you would be overwriting *all*
translations
for that domain, leaving only your own translations.  So
this is not
something that you would use for just changing one or two
message
strings.
