I'm unable to enter certain code snippets and blocks as text
in
documentation in Plone, such as pieces of SQL and Python. I
guess
Zope/Plone is trying to interpret the code (even though it's
in <pre /
> tags) and throws up exceptions like "Malformed
query" when it can't
figure out what to do with it. I opened a ticket relative
to this
months ago, but it hasn't been addressed. [1]

Here's an example snippet that causes a
TextIndex.QueryError/Malformed
query exception:
 if (newpf.length()>250)  ....

In fact, just "if ()" in a <pre /> tag
throws the same error.

Is there a relatively painless work-around?

Thanks,
~John

Is there a special object class, a template rule, or a trick
of some
sort, to force Plone/Zope to completely ignore a block of
text on a
page, so that it is presented literally as-is?

As an emergency remedy, I took screen shots of the code and
inserted
them as images into the pages where the code blocks should
have been.
I don't find that to be an acceptable solution from a
usability
standpoint, especially since the folks who'll be reading it
are sys-
admins who would want to copy and paste the code elsewhere.
I'd
appreciate feedback or alternative methods of getting around
these
issues.

That's what the <pre> tag is for, depending on what
markup you use, it
might be handled differently.

If you're in Kupu, what you're looking for is
"literal" or "preformatted"
text (in the pulldown menu).
