When setting permissions in the ZMI for Role To Permission
the Acquire can be
selected and this can propagate upwards to /Plone and then
again the Root
Folder where it can go no further (and there is no Acquire
check box).
Now a similar paradigm is working in the 'Inherit
permissions' on the
sharing tab for User/Group To Role mapping.
But...
Q1. Where does a top level Folder Inherits from?
I can not find any containing object for top level folder
from which they
would inherit User/Group to Role mappings (other than those
in site setup
but see below).
Q2. It appears that the User/Group To Role settings that are
set by
administrator in site setup are set apart from this line of
inheritance -
they are global. They do not appear in the table of the
Sharing Tab for
inherited permissions. If Inherit Permissions is not
selected these global
User/Group to Role settings still have effect. If this
process of
elimination is correct this shows that these are global
settings which are
always combined with any local and inherited settings?
In summary is it correct and expected behaviour that:
User/Group to Role mappings set in Site setup>U/G Admin
are:
1. Global
2. Are therefore by definition never inherited
3. Are combined / added to any local permissions always
(they can not be
overridden, denied, blocked)
4. Top level folders can not inherit U/G to Role permissions
form anywhere
even though a check box exists for such.
