Hello,

Plucker is my favourite reader for everything. I convert
whatever I have
into HTML and then into Plucker.
I had this idea that if the converter could be ported to the
Palm
itself, it would be possible to just save HTML files to the
SD-Card and
read them from there with Plucker. I could think even of
JIT-conversion
of Websites while being online, effectively making Plucker a
browser!
Any chance this could be considered?
Best Regards!

Alex Pruss raised this idea on the Plucker dev list, and the
short
answer seemed to be "You don't want to go
there..." There would be
issues with memory requirements, among other things. And
the current
parser versions are in Python and Java. It would need to
be
re-written in C++. (There is a Palm version of Python
called Pippy,
and IBM makes a JVM for PalmOS devices, but I doubt either
is up to
this.)

I'd be more interested in the ability (probably through
plugins) for
Plucker to display other things besides converted HTML. I
use Plucker
as an ebook reader, and would prefer to maintain just one,
rather than
five. (Plucker for converted HTML, PalmPDF, PalmFiction
for
doc/ztext/text/RTF files, Mobipocket, and eReader.
Sheesh.)

That was discussed a while back, too, and would apparently
require a
rather extensive rewrite of Plucker to support the idea.

Sheesh.)

There was some talk about making Plucker understand at least
the basic
"free" formats (Weasel, zTXT, plain text, PalmDOC,
etc.) but it never
got off the ground very far.

I think that was before the introduction of PPI. Perhaps
some voodoo
around PPI would help leverage this a bit better.

Weasel and zText are the same thing, I believe. And Plucker
handling
text, doc, and zText files would cover about 90% of my
bases. Plucker
already supports high-compression documents using Zlib, and
zText is
essentially PalmDOC using zlib instead of DOC's RLE form, so
at least
some of the infrastructure is already there.

Hmmm. I think you're right.
