I recently released two new software products that are
available for
free download and testing. They are called Influence and
Security
Decisions. I thought group members might want to download
and try them.

Influence is a software program that applies psychological
research
results to the practical challenges of influencing others.
It takes
information from you about your situations, analyzes them,
and tells
you the risks and rewards for different influence strategies
you
might try. It's kind of like an all seeing eye into the
future...

Security Decisions 2007 puts sound information security
practices
into a usable form for decision makers in enterprises of all
sizes.
Make better and well documented security decisions more
quickly and
with a sound basis, starting right now...

Both can be accessed by going to http://all.net/ and pressing on
the
proper picture. This takes you to an information page with a
download
capability. I would love to get feedback from group members.

My feedback is that it is better to describe what is meant
by "download
the software". Is this source ? If so, in what
language ? Is this
executables ? If so for what operating systems and
architectures ?

I am reminded of the "Oakland" IEEE Symposium on
Security and Privacy
many years ago when an innovator provided a connection to
the Internet.
Out of hundreds of security experts present, approximately
one person
stopped to ask how they could know their password to their
home machine
was not being purloined. It was that experiment (how many
would ask)
that provided the main motive for the innovator to provid
the connection.

Dr. Cohen,

Can you provide some screenshots, details and features of
the
software. I am usually wary of installing any software from
the web.

From the current description on your website it merely looks
like mind
mapping tool with decision analysis feature.

It a java jar file and should execute on just about any
computer out
there. Perhaps, if you are worried about it, you could run
it from a
computer at the local library or elsewhere. Showing a screen
shot is
really not likely to be very informative. I don't think
"Influence"
it is anything like a mind mapping tool and I am certain
that
"Security Decisions" is not. If you want more
details on Influence,
you might want to start at:

http://all.net/
	=> Library
		=> Deception for Protection
			=> 2001: A Framework for Deception

In the cited references and drill-downs into influence and
perception
summaries, I provide the underlying material used to perform
the
analysis used in Influence.

The package comes with documentation of how and why it does
what it
does (press the "Help" button), so that's really
the best way to
understand it.
