I went ahead and re-registered the snort sensor profile with
the following command, it returned success.  Same error upon
starting Snort.

# prelude-adduser register snort "idmef:w admin:r"
127.0.0.1 --uid 557 --gid 557

Can you please provide a "strace -e open snort" ?
