Long ago it seems there was a decent discussion about the
virtues and 
possibility of providing automatic short circuiting
(bypassing the 
legacy service when endpoints were connected to the same
transport) in 
transports. It might have been on this list, or it might
have been on 
the list of the aim transport written in C.

If anyone's interested in such a feature they might want to
search for 
this thread.
