Good point; I had forgotten there isn't a Windows
fetch-X-from-repositories. The closest thing that comes to
mind is the
whole Policy Object enchilada which I never really
understood.

That works actually very well, but requires that computers
are domain
members. Then, you can deploy selected software on a
selected subset
of the machines in the domain, or for a selected subset of
the users.
