| Hi Siddhartha, I only receive the
daily digest so this may well have been answered already.
Under Certification Matrices click
Integrity Servers, then click rx7640.
If you will be installing Oracle on the server let me
know, as there are some specific patches required.
I hope this helps! Thanks! Regards!
Please let me know if you
prefer to not receive email from me.

Hi Tony
Yes, my RHEL is plain and i was doubting that. Can you pls confirm that HP
Itanium rx7640 needs at least U3, or U4, U5. I dont have any access to such
information. What i have is only RHEL Version 4 (Intel Itanium) and i am failing
with that for the last 2 weeks.

Hi Doug
Thanks for your response.Appreciate it.
As you said, i am reinstalling without Smart Setup CD. I would just want
to clarify from you, the RHEL4 that i am using is definitely for Itanium but i
cant figure out if its U4 - that's not mentioned anywhere. If its only RHEL4
(without an update) will it work?
Further, i also tried to boot into rescue mode from installation media
disk 1 to reinstall the Boot Loader as it was not there. But to my surprise i
could find /sbin/grub-install. Further if i type
"fdisk -l" the output is
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disk /dev/sda: 73.4 GB, 73407865856 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track,
8924 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280
bytes ------------------------------------------------------------------------
But i created 3 partitions and 2 were created by the SmartSetup CD. I am
very confused as a newbee

You should not
need the smart setup CD anymore. You can let the Red
Hat installer create all the partitions.

The /boot filesystem is vfat, not ext2 so
e2lablel won' work. Under RHEL4 U4 /boot was not mounted by
using a label so you should not need to label it anyway (under RHEL4 U5
however it does us a label FYI).
I suggest trying a fresh install
and tell the installer to remove all existing partitions and create new
ones. Let me know if you run into any more issues.

Hi Keith,
Greetings once again! I kno i am disturbing you in your busy schedule, but your guidance has been invaluable help me in my job. The U5 has been a success and thanks to you in all respects. There are minor issues that you can clear me about. Firstly, i dont have the GUI, as both the rx7640 didn't have any kinda display adapters. All i have is a HP thin client, will that give me the GUI? Secondly, we propose to form a cluster of 2 nodes, i guess i have to be doing the clustering first..i have Redhat Cluster Suite. Then, a have the EVA6000 (with 2 san switches, 2 controllers and 4 arrays with 4 hdds each - total 16). And finally Oracle RAC. I have been collecting documents from hp, redhat. But, i am in need of your tech-tips as my guidelines, and all the important patches for oracle that u told me about in your last mail.
Pls. send me your suggestions. Thanks.
With best regards
Siddhartha
