I'm trying to install RHEL4-U4-x86_64-WS on a Dual Opteron system (The
Tyan Thunder K8WE (S2895) Bios 1.03L) with a HP SmartArray P600. Nearly
the whole installation goes without any issues, but when I get in the last
few minutes, in the 'post install configuration' it hangs at 50%. I've had this
behaviour 3/4 times (GUI or text mode). Yet Fedora Core 5 for x86_64 installs
fine.
Before the process hangs during the install, I jump to the /bin/sh and start a
'top' monitoring. When the installation hangs, all the processes (anaconda etc...)
are in Sleep state, and nothing else runs. yet the CPU load increases... none of
the other virtual consoles, show any major issues.
How can I debug what or where the issue is in this failure to install ? Is there a
way to launch an RHEL4 install and get more debug messages during the
install process ?
