Thread: dns delays

dns delays
country flaguser name
Switzerland

I have just upgraded from RHEL 3 to RHEL 4, and installed
the latest RHN
updates.

The system includes firefox 1.5.0.10

Now I observe starnge 10-seconds delay for each DNS
resolution in firefox.

When I resolve a domain from the konsole, for example by
calling
ping [domainname]
or
traaceroute [domainname]
I get the reolution instantly (or a very small delay from
name resolution)

But when I click on any remote link in firefox, I get a 10
second delay
before the name is resolved.

The same delay happens when browsing with conqueror.

The file /etc/resolver.conf contains
just the name of the DNS server

What coould be the reason for this 10 second delay?

foudn the solution myself:

I need to turn ipv6 off, by inserting
in /etc/modprobe.conf the line
alias net-pf-10 off
and rebooting.
