linux gsa won't automount

Every time I did service autofs start I recevied this error,
reconfigured
gsa many times it's a RH Enterprise version 3.
Any ideas......?  nfs and rpc.mountd was running.  It keeps
looking for
/etc first which I think is the cause, but not sure
how to cure the symptom.

Starting automount:
