hi mike,

the fan problem is well known on many HP models. this is
because of
acpi problems. while talking to REDHAT employee, he told me
that the
manufacturers keep changing thier acpi specs, and they can't
catch all
duing QA. IBM is also problematic in that area.

generation is the generation model. hp has from G1 to G5.
the model
stay the same ML370 but the genration keeps changing. in
each model
they introduce new technology. for example the introduction
of SAS
controller, serial attached SCSI in G5.

first of all download the latest ROMPAQ (BIOS) and install
it on the
server.

i recomment using the latest PSP. you don't have to use ALL
the rpm in
that package. some are for IPMI. there is one for the
ethernet
interface, snmp, etc, etc..

keep track of the errors. they are probably because of
meesing
libraries, symbolic links, dependencies of rpms. look at the
HP
knowledge base. look at google. there are many places to
seek for help.
i wonder if you can even post a request at the HP
engennering team who
put together the PSP.

the last result is to seek help in kernel boot time
parmeters.
disabling ACPI all together is not recommended.

if you need more info., or has some question. contact me.
