I was wondering if anyone has had any experience installing
Fedora Core
on a MacBook. I recently acquired a brand new Core 2 Duo
MacBook Pro,
and am rather eager to begin using my favorite distribution
on it.
I downloaded the FC6 x86_64 DVD, which booted properly.
Partitioning
and
installation worked correctly as well, but upon reboot my
boot loader
(rEFIt) doesn't recognize the partition as Linux and refuses
to boot
it.
Any help related to booting from EFI would be extremely
appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

but in x86 we often use grub or lilo to boot the system , a
grub can
read the partion directly and boot any bootable image.

rEFIt is an EFI based boot loader, Grub is a BIOS boot
loader. rEFIt is
needed because no other (stable) boot loader I could find is
EFI
compatible. Once rEFIt boots, it can to activate the BIOS
emulator and
boot into the BIOS boot loader. Grub may work on normal PCs,
but a
little googling will reveal it doesn't at all on the MBP due
to a
couple code glitches. It failed to install in Anaconda, and
I've read
that any further attempts to use it will be in vain as well.
My problem here is that once rEFIt loads and begins to boot
into the
Fedora partition, it fails because no BIOS boot loader
exists there.
Grub doesn't work because it could never install properly.
I've heard
in some places that Lilo might work, but I have yet to find
verification that this will work in Fedora.
Can anyone confirm this?
