compile from src rpm to match the fedora config

I have never been able to find a solution to this, and I
wonder if
somebody can help me out.

If I download a Fedora source RPM and compile it, the result
is
different from the binary that is installed when I use the
Fedora
binary rpm package.

When I say different, I mean that the config files do not
default to
the same location and the binaries will often install into
/usr/local/bin instead of the usual /bin or /usr/bin.

I have tried to figure out the ./configure options to
duplicate the
config that the binary RPM's are built with, but it seems
that the
options that Redhat used should be there somewhere, I just
cannot find
them.

Does anyone know what the trick is? Or is this Redhat's way
of making
it difficult to replicate their distro?

Thanks in advance

If you are trying to build your own package, use rpmbuild
(man
rpmbuild) with the appropriate switch. If you want to create
package
for a debian based, make a try to alien (man alien)
