I recently installed Fedora Core 6 on a 2.5 year-old Compac
Presario
3240, which uses an AMD 64 bit Athlon processor. During the
installation, I selected the options that I thought I needed
and the
process required only 3 of the 6 imaged CDs. Although I am
relatively
computer literate and have searched the on-line docs, I am
running into
problems and need some assistance.

First, I can't get the system to recognize the wireless
device in the
laptop. The docs (for RH Linux 9; there doesn't seem to be
anything
specifically for Fedora) say I should be able to go to the
"Device" tab
to install the wireless feature, but I can't find what
they're talking
about on my desktop. Do I need to reinstall the OS? If so,
what do I
need to do differently to get the install to recognize the
device? Or
is there a way to get the system to access the wireless
device?

Second, my experience with linux/unix over the years has
been that I
can easily get to a command window to enter text commands
(grep, nawk,
etc). I have gone over the desktop commands and can't find
a way to
create a text window. Is there a trick to it?

Finally, when the system starts up I get a message which
says the mail
app has the wrong time and that the Fedora build might be
incomplete.
Is that actually a possibility?

TIA.

Hi,

first we need to know your wifi card. and anyway you can
check this out
: System-->Administration-->Network

and tell how much cards do you have, and if you wifi card is
there. If
yes, you can configure it right there, if not .... we need
to call
"Hosuton ..."

in that case do this command on a console and give it back :
lspci -v

good luck,
Zydoon.

By God, the device shows under System | Administration |
Network as you
suggest. It is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g
Wireless Lan
Controller. It is set to eth1 and is inactive.

When I try to activate it, I get a message telling me to
check the
cable, so I need to set something else. Any thoughts on
where I get
get info on the settings I need?

Thanks for your information. I'm a *lot* further along than
I was last
week.
