Hello!
I am using Gnome rhythmbox 0.9.6 on debian.
I am interested to know, if you are working/interested
to work at a universal dbus interface for all kinds of
media players, for example, refer:
http://wiki.videol
an.org/DBus-spec
Although, I find the Rhythmbox-dbus API even better
than this list( so I am going to try to add all the
good points of Rhythmbox-dbus interface and methods to
this list, isn't it a good idea?).
Moreover, wouldnot it be nicer if there is a Dbus
Signal called "VolumeChanged" when a user changes
volume level? I am interested in the messages on
dbus-monitor.
Additionally, wouldnot it be nicer if rhythmbox also
had a mute button on it, emitting along with it a
signal called "MuteOn" on dbus-monitor.
Please tell me if there is a better place to post my
wishlist or is this the right one, already?
Thankyou for answers.
Pallavi Rao.

I'm very interesting in having a common dbus interface. I
was hoping
that something would come out of the discussion a month ago,
but it
being spread across about 20 different mailing lists didn't
help.
If there is going to be a discussion somewhere, can I
suggest having it
on one mailing list and just posting a pointer to the
others.

That sounds sensible.

We've discussed "mute" before, and I think the
general consensus is that
it isn't anywhere near as useful for audio-only players as
it is for
video ones. For audio-only players, pausing is usually just
as good.

There was a discussion on this on-list recently; see http://mail.gnome.org/archives/rhythmbox-devel/2006-December/msg00018.html seq.

Sure, go for it.
Moreover, wouldnot it be nicer if there is a Dbus
Signal called "VolumeCha nged" when a user changes
volume level? I am interested in the messages on
dbus-monitor.
Additionally, wouldnot it be nicer if rhythmbox also

What's the use case for this? I can see that a music player control applet would want to track and change the volume, but when would the user want to mute Rhythmbox as opposed to the whole computer?

Incoming phone call (Ekiga, et al.) perhaps?

James' initial reply is quoted below. I'd agree with him, at
least in
the case of an incoming phone call; I certainly wouldn't
want to miss
my favorite song! :P

Pause really is the best solution IMO, consider streaming
Internet
radio. Muting is just wasting the bandwidth you could be
using on the
video call.

Wouldn't you want to pause, though, as opposed to muting?
