Vicky, I read your post about the Demodex and lever soap with great
interest. Truly I didn't realize that these mites were so abundant
in the rosacea community. Anyway, was wondering how did you get
ahold of a microscope to check for these mites. It's not like Home
Depot will rent them to you. Also did you have just bumps that were
tiny bumps or larger type with fluid in them? All over or just some
places? Sorry for all the questions.

Hi..
There is a community college in my area and I called and talked to
their science lab instructor and explained what I needed to do..
Ironically, the professor suffers for rosacea like symptoms. She's
been battling it for nearly 10 years and she was curious about this
herself. I called EARLY in the morning, told her what I was planning
on doing, took a sample in and she put in under the microscope for
me. I was able to zoom in close enough to see the legs and tail..
they are NOT pretty creatures..
The bumps varied, generally though, they were large hard spots that
burned. The liquid was generally clear. I haven't had any pus filled
pimples in years... I would trade pimples for these horrendous bumps,
at least I know how to treat acne..
The other thing I notice, and I don't mean to be graphic, at night
the itching would be so bad that I would scratch my face in my sleep
and always scratch a bump open. I notice white spots... I think what
I was seeing was the protective cover for the larva. I've read that
the only thing that will disolve the cover is a solution of borax..
found in most grocery stores in the laundry aisle. That will be my
next step if this little experiment.
If you plan on contacting a school to use a microscope, make sure you
take in a sample before you get there. I had a small sample jar with
a tight lid. It holds about a tablespoon of liquid. I had applied the
corn oil to my face and let it set about 10 minutes.. probably don't
need to wait that long... I smoothed my hand over my face from my
chin to my temple, I then used a plastic knife to scrape them from my
hand and transferred them to the jar which was also half filled with
oil. I also scraped the opposite side of my face with the dull side
of the knife, be careful if you do that... don't want to tear skin.
I hope this helps. My community colleges will let you come in if you
call them and explain what your doing. If you have high school kids,
you may want to check with your high school.
I do apologize for the length... I really hope this helps.
