Hi Julie,
I can relate your thinking that your Rosacea may be worsened by menopause, as it certainly did that for me. I am taking natural compounded hormones to help my transition and really believe it helps my face. Especially if you are having hot flashes or even just uneven body temps. At the moment I am reading a book called "Natural Hormone Balance" by Uzzi Reiss, Md OB Gyn. It is by far the best book I've read yet on leveling out your hormones. I got mine at the library but will probably buy it. I always thought you didn't need help with your hormones until around menopause, but that sure isn't the case, according to Dr Reiss. However because menopause is so chaotic most women seek help then. Sorry to have droned on. But you might consider seeking help for your hormones which in turn could help your skin. I think we all agree that our facial skin seems to be the "billboard" for what is going on in our bodies.
Best Wishes,
Lee

Subject: [rosacea] Metronidazole & Oracea
Well, back from a visit to the dermatologist. At my request, he gave
me a prescription for metronidazole (.75%), which is what I used to
keep my rosacea at bay for about 3 years. I haven't used it in about a
year, so I am anxious to see how it deals with my current condition
(red cheeks and nose with pimples).
He also gave me a prescription for Oracea (doxycycline) 40 mg. one pill
per day. He says this is not the antibiotic strength, but will help
with the inflammation.
I mentioned that I felt my current problem might be menopause-related
and he said, "It probably is!"
So, we'll see how it goes. Am curious if anyone has ever had
positive/negative results with Oracea?
Julie
