I have a list of truths, logic, principles, and montras that I have
come up with in dealing with my rosacea and OCD and BDD. Some of them
may be kind of confusing, but hopefully you guys may be able to get
something from them and maybe even add to the list yourself. I have
come up with some of these just through my own experiences and also
from speaking with a therapist once a week for almost a year. I just
wrote them down off of memory last week:
-Accept it. Worrying doesn't help it.
-Can still work to change it while accepting it.
-Meaningless brain activity: OCD and self-conscious thoughts
-Logic and principles (of fighting OCD and BDD) outweigh the desire
to worry and check appearance.
-No sense in focusing on it, you can always focus on sensations
(anywhere in the body) if you try
-When I have sensations and redness do not let them impact my
emotions (good or bad).Happiness is not dependent on whether I have
redness and blotchiness or not. Checking it only hurts (OCD and self-
consciousness), it does not make me think of a different treatment or
idea to try.
-Enjoy life in the moment. Make fun out of it, there is usually some
benefit.
-Happiness and confidence are not conditional. They are a base that
survives. Think of all the successful and joyful people with things
that may be considered appearance issues or skin problems (The
President of the damn USA has rosacea). A lot of people have
disabilities that are far worse who are getting along with life and
dealing with it well enough to not let it stop them or hold them back.
-Its cool if other people say things, that's on them. People joke for
fun, or if they want to be mean (then they are just asses anyway) and
some people are just curious. But I survive no matter what.
-Flooding exercise: "Oh, I'm so embarrassed!"
-Sensations and redness do not dictate whether it is a good day or
not.

THIS is just what I need to read once in a while. I do so much for my rosacea, but where do I draw the line? Sure, lots of things will help it, but I can't do them all.
Lately, rather than having the "I'll try anything!" approach, I've been trying to scale back. I have been asking myself what I'm willing to do, rather than being willing to incorporate everything in - which is really just too much.
So, the mineral oil cleansing/moisturizing will really allow me to do this. I think (on my skin) I will use that, and only that (plus my unifiance makeup occasionally, and a touch of Pyratine-6), for a while. It will be a hands-off approach, and a LOT simpler.
I am already treating my skin with occasional IPLs, red light therapy, and oral medications/supplements, which are all pretty easy. So I really shouldn't need to do much to my face (well, I hope I'm right!).
Cheers!
